Your own pad design, made in Canva

The best-looking prescriptions. Design your pad in Canva, upload it as your letterhead, and set the top and bottom margins so RxKite prints in the white middle.

6 minute read

This is the best way to make your prescriptions look exactly as you want. Design the whole page yourself in Canva (the free plan is enough), upload it to RxKite as your letterhead, and RxKite prints each prescription in the white space you leave in the middle.

Anything you can design in Canva prints on every prescription, exactly as designed: your logo, fonts, colours, a photo, a QR code for appointments, an emergency line in red.

1. Design the pad in Canva

  1. Go to canva.com and sign in.
  2. Choose Create a design → Custom size. For A4 enter 210 × 297 mm; for A5, 148 × 210 mm. You can also search Canva's templates for prescription pad or doctor letterhead and start from one of the same size.
  3. Put your header at the top: name, degrees, registration number, logo, clinic and phone.
  4. Put your footer at the bottom: address, timings, a booking QR code, and an emergency line such as In case of an emergency, go to the nearest hospital.
  5. Leave the middle white. That is where RxKite prints the patient's details, the medicines and your signature. On A4, keep at least 18 cm of height free; on A5, at least 13 cm.
  6. Choose Share → Download → PDF Print. PDF Standard, PNG and JPG also work, but a PDF stays sharpest. A large file is made smaller automatically when you upload it.

2. Upload it as your letterhead

In RxKite, open Pad & printing and your pad, or Add a pad layout.

  1. Under What do you print on? choose Letterhead file.
  2. Press Upload and choose the file you downloaded from Canva.
  3. Under Paper size, choose the size you designed in Canva.

The preview on the right now shows your design with a sample prescription printed on it.

3. Set the top and bottom margins

Under Top and bottom margins, set Header height (top) and Footer height (bottom) so the sample prescription sits in the white middle of your design. They start at 40 mm and 20 mm; type a number, use the arrows in the box, or drag the slider:

  • If the prescription touches your header, raise the header height.
  • If it runs into your footer, raise the footer height.
  • Leave 3–4 mm of white between your design and the print.

Then press Print a test page with these settings and check it on paper. In the print window, set Scale to 100% (Actual size) and Margins to None.

RxKite does not print its own typed header and footer on a letterhead, because your design already has them. The Note at the bottom of every page still prints if you add one.

Tips

  • A long prescription continues on a second sheet, with your letterhead behind it too.
  • Print on both A4 and A5? Make one Canva design and one pad for each size. Standard and Pro allow up to five pads.
  • To change your design, edit it in Canva, download it again, and press Replace on the pad. Prescriptions you have already signed keep the letterhead they were signed with.
  • Printing on sheets that are already printed? Follow Pre-printed pads instead.
